All About Eric
About Me:
I am a very odd person. I love computers, and know several programming languages - including PHP, HTML, Java, LPC, and C++, to varying degrees. I like to play volleyball, although I am not very good at it. I feel like I am misread at times, people mistaking my being nice for insecurity. I am a very nice person, and really would not wish anything bad on my worst enemy, other than perhaps a job promotion somewhere else ;) As far as religion, I claim nondenominational Christianity, although I have an open mind. I reiterate - I have an open mind. This means I will not think any less of you regardless of religion, sexual preference, or things of that nature (except perhaps if you are satanist, sorry). Politically I am a republican, but I also often agree with the democrats on issues - the war in Iraq NOT being one of them. I do, however, prefer to abstain from political discussions on topics such as the war in Iraq, or Bush in general. I am open to discussing other political topics, however, such as abortion.
As far as computers go, I am sure you noticed that the quote on my home page about Hagrid lines up with the URL of the site (hagrid.simud.org). This is because my server is named hagrid and it is hosted through the simud.org domain (thanks to Ammon Lauritzen for the server and domain by the way). My primary programming language is Java, followed by HTML/PHP, and LPC/C++, mostly in that order. I tend to learn quickly, however ;) I have 2 computers that I own and use: Vitamin, my desktop, and Athenon, my laptop (coincidentally also my online name most of the time). I also volunteer on a MUD called Walraven, where I am a wizard (basically part of the staff). I also run my own MUD using the same mudlib, called Xpanse. Xpanse is very inactive, and most of the time I am the only person ever online. I have a MySpace and Facebook account, and generally visit them a few times a day each. I mostly use Windows XP Professional, but, as hagrid runs linux, I am also starting to use linux more and more.
As for languages, the only two languages I can actually make my way around in are English and German. Coincidentally, German is the second most used language on the internet. I am interested in several languages, mostly chinese, and perhaps arabic or japanese. I generally do not care for latin-based languages (french, italian, romanian, spanish, portugese). I also have music in several languages. Among these are Zulu, Romanian, French, German, Chinese, and of all things - English. I know that may seem like a contradiction (as I just said i do not care for latin-based languages), but the number of songs I have in latin-based languages is far smaller than that of other languages. In addition, I did say generally ;)
Next topic - music. Many people do not like my music, in fact some are even offended by it, for reasons I have yet to figure out. My taste in music is generally based on the song, not the artist. For example, I like Green Day. I do not, however, like all of their songs. In fact, there are probably many I do not like. Among their songs that I do like: American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Nice Guys Finish Last. Also, my taste in music is generally not affected by genre. I like at least a few songs from almost every genre - from country, to rap, to rock, to techno.
Last topic - relationships (of the girl-kind). There is little to put in this category as I have had no relationships. My basic goals in a relationship are simply to have someone that will love me for me - someone to hold when times are tough, someone to cuddle with when I feel lonley, that sort of thing. She does not have to be incredible beautiful, or ultra smart. She should, however, have a compatible personality (if that is not obvious :P).
